AviationTaxHighly Qualified Person Rules Amended

The Government of Malta has recently issued Legal Notice 152 of 2013 which brings into force amendments to the Highly Qualified Persons Rules.

These amendments shall be deemed to have come into force on 1 January, 2012.

The Highly Qualified Person Rules apply a beneficial tax rate of 15%, on employment income derived in respect of work or duties carried out in Malta, to individuals holding a senior position with companies licensed or recognized by the Malta Financial Services Authority or the Lotteries and Gaming Authority or companies which hold an Air Operators’ Certificate.

The amendment has resulted in the addition of job titles in respect of senior employees in the aviation sector.  Aviation Continuing Airworthiness Inspector, Aviation Flight Operations, have been substituted with Aviation Continuing Airworthiness Manager and Aviation Flight Operations Manager and Aviation Ground Operations Manager has been included under the definition of ‘Eligible Office’.
