One of the most important functions of the Accountancy Board, the entity entrusted by the Accountancy Profession Act (Cap. 281, Laws of Malta) to regulate the accountancy and audit profession in Malta, is the quality assurance process pursuant to which it is ensured that the standards being applied by audit practices in Malta are of the highest levels.

The strengthen this function, the Accountancy Board has recently organised a course intended to assist persons with audit experience to obtain recognition to practice as official external audit reviewers of audit practitioners in Malta, on a freelance basis. Participants could be eligible to be listed on the website of the Accountancy Board as official external audit reviewers, whose main task will be that of carrying out audit compliance reviews, hot and cold file reviews.

David Zahra of David Zahra & Associates Advocates led one of the sessions held at the Malta University Residence in Lija. David Zahra gave an overview of the regulatory framework governing auditors and accountants and focused on its salient features with particular focus on ethics, professional standards and quality assurance.

The course was co-organised by the Accountancy Board and Malta University Consulting Limited.
