MaltaMalta excels in EU competitiveness rankings

October 14, 2016

Malta has once again been ranked among the top 5 EU Member states in a recent Competitiveness scoreboard published by the European Commission in September 2016.

Malta’s ranking was based on criteria pertaining to the following areas: (i) Greenhouse gas emissions; (ii) TFP (Total Factor Productivity), an important indicator of innovation and economic growth – R&D skills; (iii) Intra EU trade services; and (iv) Malta’s Stock of Foreign Direct Investment Fund.

The Government of Malta welcomed the acknowledgement of Malta’s excellent recent performances, and emphasised the importance of improving access to finance for enterprises, particularly start-ups and scale-ups, in order to sustain growth both in Malta and in the EU.
